Principal Investigator Position in Biomolecular Interactions with Small Compounds

The Biomolecular Modelling and Design Division at the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), Agency of Science and Technology Research (A*STAR), Republic of Singapore, invites applications for a junior or senior principal-investigator (PI) position in the area of studying interaction of biomacromolecules with potentially pharmaceutically active compounds and/or chemoinformatics. The successful candidate will establish and lead an independent research team in the division that focuses on the development of theoretical/experimental analysis methods and their application for the understanding of biomolecular mechanisms in biologically or clinically relevant problems.

BII has a strong focus on internationally competitive fundamental research as well as on translational outreach towards clinical and industrial applications. The Biomolecular Modelling and Design Division is multi-disciplinary with a wide range of expertise in computational biology applied to biomolecular structure analysis and modelling and in the role of biomolecular interactions in biological processes. Advanced computer and certain experimental facilities are available within BII.

Interested candidates with the following credentials may send an email application to Dr. Chandra Verma:

  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant area (e.g., computational, chemical or structural biology) and a notable publication record.
  • Strong analytical skills, especially in the area of biomolecular structural studies.
  • Experienced in combining computational methodologies with biological experimental work to further biological discoveries.

Interested applicants should send their CV, statement of research interests and the names and addresses of three references. The application is expected to be accompanied with the outline of a research project that the applicant plans to work on during his time as PI in BII. Possible projects might involve combining computational design/development of chemicals (fragments/small molecules) and experimental assays towards interrogation of biochemical and biological mechanisms (in addition to other topics). We are looking for a candidate who is independent-minded, can work well in a team environment, and willing to collaborate with experimental laboratories.

The job scope includes:

  • Analysis of biomolecular interactions with small compounds and the application to a relevant biological or clinical problem with the goal of elucidating biomolecular mechanisms.
  • Recruit and lead an independent group.
  • Involvement in education of PhD students and, to a minor degree, of MSc students.

The position provides a three-year unlimitedly renewable contract with competitive benefits. The search will continue until the position is filled (at least until 30th June 2012). For more information, please visit The Biomolecular Modelling and Design Division. Applications and inquiries should be sent to Dr. Chandra Verma (chandra@bii.a-star.edu.sg).
