Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Nov 2006 - Present
I joined BII in 2006. My research area is bioimaging with emphasis on image processing and data mining algorithms for high throughput images.

If I have to choose one word to describe myself, then "multi" just pops up. I grew up in Hong Kong and studied in Los Angeles, both are multi-cultural cities. Now, I work in Singapore, another multi-cultural city. My work is also multidisciplinary. It is a mixture of mathematics, computer science and biology: master's thesis is about functional analysis (a pure math subject), Ph.D. thesis is about database and postdoc research is about bioimaging.

  Li Bihui

B.A., University of Chicago

Research Officer

July 2007 - July 2009

I am a researcher in the Computer Vision and Pattern Discovery group in the Bioinformatics Institute. My current project is to come up with a general unsupervised clustering algorithm by learning from examples of supervised clustering. Previously, I studied philosophy and physics at the University of Chicago, where I became distracted by music theory, acquired a slight obsession with Wittgenstein, and tried my hand at some experimental particle physics. I have soft spots for mountains, scientifically informed philosophy, Schubert Lieder, and Scrabble.

  Ho Qirong

B.A., Carnegie Mellon University

Research Officer

July 2008 - July 2009

My name is Qirong, and my (current) research interests are machine learning and computer vision. But I also enjoy mathematics, statistics and computer science in general. What do I do outside of work? Oh, but I'm a shy person so I don't talk about such things. That answer no good? Okay, how about... sleeping? I like sleeping. A lot. I also enjoy stealing food from nearby conferences.

May 2009 - July 2009

Hey YOU!...are now reading the description about this dude called Chin Hong, who is a student of Mathematical Sciences in NTU and currently having his internship in Bioinformatics Institute as one of his course module since May of 2009.

Well, he involves in a research project which requires him to do programming on image processing of mammary gland. Basically what he is doing now are creating a more generic type of header files for distance transformation, skeletonization, junction points and end points detection on a skeletonized binary image, pruning skeleton, removing the small loops etc.

He was born in Malaysia, came to Singapore 3 years ago for the degree course in Nanyang Technological University and going for his final year in this coming August. What he usually does is just dance, dance and dance. He is currently a dancer in a dance club called MJ in NTU and he involves quite a lot in the MJ's activities. He enjoys dancing and he is now learning some other dance genres besides Hip Hop such as, Poppin', Bboyin' and also contemp? Yea, you get it right, all these genres and CONTEMPORARY dance ^^ He will keep dancing even after his graduation because dancing makes him feels ENERGETIC and YOUNG! =)
