The symposium "Biomolecular Mechanism Discovery with Computational Biology" is jointly organized by the Bioinformatics Institute, A*STAR and ProBioC, a society for the advancement of computational biology registered in Heidelberg/Germany by active and former members of the Bork group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, as a satellite activity of the 2008 EMBO Practical Course in Computational Biology in Singapore.
The symposium will be a forum for researchers to discuss the problems of general biological significance that are most likely to be accessible for solution with theoretical methods. Previous success stories have shown that computational biology has become indispensable for the discovery of new biomolecular mechanisms with the analysis of high-throughput data from sequencing, expression profiling and the like.
